Pilot Research Program at SIIL
We are thrilled to share with you the first exciting news of 2025! We are launching the Pilot Research Program at SIIL in collaboration with the research team at CERN. We are starting with several research directions in Information Technology (IT) and Applied Accelerator Physics. SIIL students will have the opportunity to take part in the operation of the CLEAR accelerator, develop software and tools to improve its operation as part of their research projects during the semester, and potentially lay the foundation for their dissertations. This valuable hands-on experience at the unique accelerator complex will allow students to build expertise in the field of accelerator physics and IT and prepare themselves for successful careers in the scientific or business environment.
The initiative for the research programs will be driven by Dr. Alexander Malyzhenkov, an expert in the field of accelerator physics. Alexander joined our team at the beginning of 2025 as a Research Scientist and the Director of the Research Program. He will hold a joint appointment between SIIL and CERN, where he has been working as a research fellow at the CLEAR Irradiation Facility since 2021.

(2024) – Watch Trailer
Dr. Alexander Malyzhenkov has six years of post-PhD research experience at leading institutions in Switzerland, including CERN and the Paul Scherrer Institute. Additionally, he has over 15 years of hands-on research experience across two continents—North America and Europe—including six years of work in Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Dr. Alexander Malyzhenkov has a proven academic track record, validated by approximately 900 citations, over 30 peer-reviewed publications, and the results of his work being highlighted in more than 10 press releases. We are extremely happy to welcome him to SIIL and look forward to the rapid and progressive development of our research program with his expertise.
